As the name implies, Rough Terrain Forklifts are designed to run in the toughest environments on rough, unpaved surfaces. An ideal choice for construction projects, lumberyards, landscaping, and other outdoor applications, rough terrain forklifts have deep treaded, large pneumatic tires allowing the vehicle to grip the roughest of terrains, including mud, sand, rocks, snow, wood, and ice. While rough terrain forklifts are more expensive than other forklifts they also have higher speeds, better acceleration, and are virtually unstoppable

Forklifts were first developed in the early 20th century. In 1906 the Pennsylvania Railroad introduced a battery powered platform truck. The convenience of this truck soon became known throughout the world and was used to help in factories, WWI and WWII. The modern forklift still used today was introduced in the 1920s by various companies. Since then the forklift has became a crucial piece of equipment in an assortment of warehouse and manufacturing businesses.

Used Forklift Classes

  • Class 1 forklifts are either seated or stand-up operator electric, rider truck, three-wheel units. Rider units are counterbalanced and may have cushion or pneumatic wheels.

Class 2 forklifts are often used in order picking and inventory stock applications. These electric trucks work well in narrow aisle environments.

Class 3 forklifts are often counterbalanced either standing-rider or walk-behind electric trucks. High lift models and automated pallet lift-trucks are common.

Class 4 forklifts are rider fork trucks, with internal combustion engines, seated controls, and cabs with cushion or solid tires.

Class 5 forklifts are typically counterbalanced; these fork trucks, with internal combustion engines, seated controls, and cabs with pneumatic tires.

Class 6 forklifts are sit-down rider, tow tractor lifts, with electric or internal combustion engines.

Class 7 forklifts are often used in construction, logging and agriculture. Designed for use on rough terrain.
